Death's Head Moth brooch

I've been wanting to get a brooch of some sort for a long time now, but never quite found the one I was looking for. I wanted to be able to wear it with my lolita clothes as well as casually, and due to this so many of the ones I liked were just too fancy or overly cute to be worn casually. Then, when I finally found the perfect artist who makes all kinds of awesome things, ofcourse I had to have other purchases to be made, so I couldn't prioritize the brooch after all (><)

However a little while back on November when I had my birthday my sister gave me a giftcard to Etsy! We usually don't even exchange presents anymore (a mutual agreement, since we are both awkward at it), so it was such a nice surprise that she had thought to get me a giftcard!

And I knew right away just what to get with it!

Behold my mighty Death's Head Moth brooch from Monica L. Knighton

I am so pleased with my brooch! It is made of wood and beautifully carved with stars on its wings. It is so very fine and detailed craftmanship! And when the package got to me (really fast too from the US and all the way to Finland) there were all kinds of wonderful things included! So many small and beautiful artworks to admire! I am very happy with my purchase, will definitely keep this artist in mind in the future! Now I just need to figure out the perfect coord to go with this! Oh! All these new ideas (ω)

Visiting Arboretum

Back during the summer we went to Arboretum at Tampere with a dear old friend. It was such a great trip! I'm quite positive that if I ever get a garden of my own I will plant random rosebushes all around the yard. Been having this thought in my head ever since I visited the Arboretum last year (for the first time), and it seems the thought just sticks with me. Roses are so magical, and it seems that just looking at them always takes me years back to a different time. And in Arboretum you can see so many different kinds! I loved these especially:

I wore my new Axes Femme chiffon dress, which I got second hand from a japanese auction site. Just a plain look this time though, it was such a hot day. I really love the dress, though I had to make some classic modifications to it *again*. The sound the underskirt was making while rubbing against the chiffon was nerve wrecking, so it had to go. Also there were tons of white rhinestones on the collar ruffle, not my style, so they had to go too. But overall I am very pleased with it now. I also got myself a sea green Axes Femme chiffon dress with a design very much alike this red dress, and in love with that one too! Wearing these makes me feel somewhat elegant (◡‿◡✿)

Recovering and finished petticoat

Okay, I'm back again! Since posting here last time I've been through a surgery and, what I hope to be, a full recovery. So lots of unposted things have happen in the meantime, but I'll try and catch up! Last time I talked about my chiffon petticoat, which is now all finished and worn several times already. I have no work in progress pictures though, since I just used MeLikesTea's tutorial on youtube to make the petti (with some minor alterations). It turned out absolutely perfect! The volume is exactly what I wanted, (fancy that, even though I was afraid of it ending up too bulky) and cost me under 20 euros (^^)

I also got myself a gorgeous dress from a friend second hand at the beginning of the summer and tuned it up a bit. I figured it could go well with a creamy blouse to make a lolita coord with a vintagey vibe. I thought maybe I could even manage to pull off a coord with an art nouveau vibe with it, but I think it'll take a little effort to pull that one. We'll see.

Left: before tuning. Right: after tuning and with my new petticoat

I love the cotton lace of the dress, it has such a lovely fairy-like feel (◡‿◡✿)

I have given up on my *rather unrealistic* dreams of becoming a ninja and settled instead on just going to the gym regularly. It has been going well, and helped the recovery from the surgery, but the knee is still giving me trouble and can't handle things like it used to. I'm not really complaining though, since I can bike and even run without breaking it, just so long as I know my limits, or rather the knee's limits.

But on top of the faulty knee and the occasionally aching surgery scar, my old nemesis has come back to haunt me: my creacking shoulder, which is considerably lower than the other one and has kept on giving me all kinds of trouble through out my entire life I swear if I'm not careful it'll pop right out of its socket one of these days.

I'm hoping for the shoulder to start shaping up too as I start avoiding exercises that upset it and finding the right ones to stregthen it. I'm glad I've got my husband going to the gym with me, otherwise I'd be sure to bust myself into little pieces by doing everything wrong, but he seems to know how to instruct me properly, so I won't end up making the same mistake twice ω

All in all after a few weeks of diligent training, I can see clearly now my stamina and energy levels gradually building up, so it's very encouraging and I keep going back to the gym eagerly! Also my body size seems to be smoothing out, since I can fit to some of the clothes I used to wear! And man does it feel good (^^)

Summer meetup

Skirt - Bodyline (tuned up)
Blouse - Axes Femme
Earrings & gloves & hair flowers - handmade by me
Necklace - old treasure
Ribbon brooch - FanPlusFriend
Bag - Ludovic Jacqz from Society6
Shoes - Taobao

There was a meetup I attended a few weeks ago, and the theme was "Finnish summer". Obviously finnish summer is short and has only a little snow, whereas the winter is long and rather never ending. I was thrilled by the theme, because it suited me well and I love making my coord fit a theme (as long as it's loose enough to manage with my smallish wardrobe). My coord was therefore a bit bitter (not exactly bitter sweet, but something along those lines) and the skirt had ice creams on it. I also threw in my old leather gloves, which I made many years ago (and wore very often!) since they seemed to tie the ero-vibes of my current favourite bag together with the rest of the coord.

I was a little bit unsure about the gloves at first, but since they used to be one of my very favourite items, I thought this was a good opportunity to get to wear them again after a long while. I was prepared for hearing that they would be out of place in my coord, but what do you know, people actually loved them and complimented my dear old gloves! Fancy that  (^_~)

All and all I felt very comfortable wearing this coord. I was originally supposed to get more colour in my life through lolita, but I do prefer it black. That's just how it is, and it seems I can't get far from it. But then again, who the heck cares as long as it's fun and feels good  ┐('`)┌

Oh, I've actually learned something about posing?
Fancy that, miracles do happen (_;)

My most used hair do. I wonder if I am just lazy or could it be that this simply looks good with just about everything? I even made a tutorial when I first came up with it
(^^) And it so happens that it is also the ONLY hair tutorial I ever made. Does that say something about me...?

I love the group photos and also the people were darlings

But this is ever so much better while derping (;ω)and I had a great time (even though my face is saying I have no idea what the heck I should be doing)!

I am proud to say that I'm currently sewing my new puffy chiffon petti (or more like organza, since it's so stiff). So now, not all talk but a work in progress already! I am hoping for it to turn out well suited for wear even while showing from under a dress or an overskirt. Don't know though yet, have to see how it looks once finished. It has a sort of champagne or beige shade about it, so I'd wager it could look good with old and creamy colours. I just hope it won't end up looking too much like underwear. I'm even dreaming of art nouveau vibes or something fairy-like for a coord with it, but I'll just have to wait once it's finished and see how it looks with what I've got.

Axes Femme tuning

This was the very first dress I ever got for lolita. I love it to bits (><) I wore it a few times, but then got painfully aware of the lace bits that didn't go well with anything. The print is so darn cute and I love the fabric, but let's face it, the original lace is a disaster. I mean, it's not even really brown, it's like dishwater brown and doesn't go with any other kind of brown without looking really dirty. On top of that, it's the sort of stretchy underwear kind of lace which doesn't compliment the print at all, or the whole dress for that matter. In short: it's just yucky.

So I took it out, and for a while I thought I might live with the dress having no lace at all. But then, I just happened to have lots of this gorgeous creamy white lace just lying around and I decided to fancy the dress up with it! The downside of it was, that since I had a fever while sewing, I actually sewed it crooked on the front (_;) but that's all fixed now (though there's no after-fixing photos).

I loved this chiffon dress so much that I got two chiffon dresses more from Axes Femme during the summer! They need a little bit of tune up too, but this time the lace is just perfect. They just make so much noise when the chiffon rubs against the under fabric, that I think I need to remove the other fabric. Instead of needing the fabric under the chiffon, I am going to make myself a real chiffon petticoat!

I have only been wearing cotton petticoats thus far, since I don't like to wear much of a puff. But this is a big step for me, since seeing the chiffon dresses look so terrible without proper puff had me finally admit that I really do need a petticoat. Petticoats are, after all, what makes the lolita silhouette. And now, after getting used to the idea of strutting around with lots of fluff, it has already grown on me and I am actually looking forward to getting to wear my new petticoat! I always loved the classic less puffy silhouettes, but who knows, maybe I'll even start wearing cupcake shapes!
